• Link specific organisms to the pneumonia whenever possible.

• Link pneumonia to any associated principal diagnoses such as acute exacerbations of lung disease (e.g. COPD) or acute respiratory failure.

• Use of the terms “complex” or “nosocomial” alone default the pneumonia DRG to SIMPLE pneumonia.
